Abstract:
This ‘Charm-Book’, from the east coast of the Malaysian peninsula, is similar in its illustrations to manuscripts from west coast regions such as Selangor. The manuscript has the date of 1324 AH (1906 CE) written in a different hand. On European paper, it is foliated in the Western manner, with fol. 1 being in fact on the last folio of the manuscript, although the text is read from right to left. (Text by John T. Carpenter and Yoshiko Yasumura, from the exhibition catalogue: Objects of instruction : treasures of the School of Oriental and African Studies, Anna Contadini, Editor. London : SOAS, University of London, 2007.) ( en )
