Baronet, Sir Joseph Banks (1743-1820) was a British naturalist who took part in Captain James Cook's first great voyage (1768–1771).
From the collection of letters, etc. grouped as "Vocabularies of the languages of Tahiti, Prince's Island, Sulu, Samarang, New Holland, New Zealand, and Savu compiled by Sir Joseph Banks."
Mr. William Monkhouse was the surgeon on board during Captain Coooks Pacific voyage. He died at Batavia of a fever after a short illness on 07 October 1771. Source: Captain Cook's diary.
