“...PRESENT DAY CHEFOO
CHIANG MAI
This year has seen the numbers at River House expand to a maximum of 12 boarders, in Grades ranging from Grades 1 to 11. There are 3 ex-Chefusians, Anna Rancourt (Grade 9), Ben Rancourt (Grade 11) and Jeanette Kreuze (Grade 8). At Christmas 1998, Robert Benson (also previously at Chefoo) returned to Brisbane, Australia.
The Highschoolers enjoy being a part of the Youth Group at the International Church here, as well as participating in many after school sports at CMIS (Chiang Mai International School).
There is a need for both boarding home parents and dorm assistants for the next school year (1999 - 2000).
We thank God for His protection and loving care in all our varied activities and pray that he will continue to work in all our lives as individuals and as a community. Jane Jamieson

“...Chapel, Toronto. It’s very much a Chefoo wedding: Judith is, of course, widely known to the Chefoo family. Alex is named after his grandfather, Alexander, who was at Chefoo 1907-1918 and his great-aunts were the late Annabella (Parsons), Catherine (Ruby) and Mary (Howard), all of whom were Chefusians. Mary celebrated her 87th birthday this year in a nursing home in Wallingford, Pennsylvania. Alex’s father, A Donald, is a honorary member of the Chefoo Schools Association, having been registered for the Fall of 1942 but the war intervened. He was a member of the Canada OMF Council 1976-87. Alex MacCleod presently serves as Campus Minister at Knox Church, Toronto, and Judith teaches Fourth Grade at the Willowdale Christian Elementary School.
Editor - I’m sure you will join with me in wish Judith and Alex God’s blessing on their marriage and every happiness in their married life. Please may we have a photograph for the next issue of the magazine?

“...boarders.They cannot appreciate our OMF Chefoo Schools charter.
There are still considerable numbers of expatriate planters professionally busy about rubber and copra in this land. For them, pay and position still favours them remaining on out here. The education of their children is an ever-increasing problem. The Planters’ Association School, Uplands, on the Penang Hill has great difficulty in attracting dedicated, long-term teachers. Many of those who do come out think little of their actual teaching and much more about the expansive social life and exotic Asian travel.
September 13 Heavy storms have again silted up our water system head works in the mountain stream we tap high above our highest building. I take senior boys Danny Heimbach and John Faulkner and a shovel and pails in eager unison to do some cleaning out work A long drawn-out chore in cold water, damp conditions and failing light. While it was yet full day, I was amused to see Danny and John side tracked into tadpole catching...”
