MRS. LILY OLESEN
Many Chefusians will remember Mrs. Olesen who was at Chefoo from 1927 till the internment at Wei Hsien, during the last war.
Her husband was a well known personality on the Chefoo Compound, and her son Wilfred and daughter Margaret were friends of many of us.
Mrs. Olesen was on the Piep School Staff for a short period then came to the Girls' School as Wardrobe Mistress. It is here that the girls will remember her best - remember her quiet personality which had a latent strength that commanded respect from the girls and unquestioning obedience to her orders. She maintained discipline with seeming effortlessness, without ever having to raise her voice.
More than this, Mrs. Olesen gained the approval of the girls, which was no mean feat. She won this approval by her consistent kindness, her thoughtfulness...”
