FROM THE EDITOR TO YOU.
Seven—the number of this issue of our Newsletter—is often regarded as a perfect number, a distinction to which we can hardly lay any claim ! Not that we would wish to do so ! A state of perfection, it seems, might be rather dull, and has an implication of finality about it. It is conceivably preferable always to be striving towards that state without, perhaps, ever attaining it ! This gives scope for progress, and that is what we want in our Branch of the C.S.A. We have enjoyed some during the last two years, but, like Oliver Twist, we want some more !
The word “ we ” includes YOU, as a member—the C.S.A. is not just an affair of the Committee. All our members can do their bit. Here are a few ways :—enrol new members ; collect news items for the Newsletter ; come to Reunions ; suggest new ideas and improvements ; and see that the Committee do their job !
May we rely on YOU ?

Diana Wedderburn is going camping at Dalkeith. She is beginning to think about her Higher Leaving Certificate Exams.
Farquhar and Norman Macrae are at Sedbergh School, Yorkshire.
Arthur Moss is busy helping Crosse and Blackwell make their jams, etc I
David Landsborough is hoping to have a holiday this summer in Scotland, part of it being spent at the Varsities and Public Schools Scottish Camp, where he will meet Howard Joyce.

“...doing translation work.
Esme Fletcher-Jones (now Mrs. Biddulph) quite unexpectedly met Howard Joyce a short time ago, and was, of course, gently persuaded to join the C.S.A. ! She is expecting to go out to Nigeria early next year to join her husband, who is in the Nigerian Administration Service. Her brother Aubrey is still living in Alderney (Channel Islands) and Aylwin is at present teaching at Oundle School.
Howard Joyce spent a very enjoyable week in April on one of the Varsities and Public Schools Camps Broads Cruises. He is said to be working hard at C.S.S.M. Headquarters, but seems to thrive on it ! He is playing plenty of tennis, as well, and is trying to win the Men's Singles Championship at his Club, having won it in the last two years. He paid a visit to Wimbledon one day during the championships there (not to play !), and happened to meet Dorothy Kirk, who was also having the day off ! We understand his wife is well, and his little son Peter is getting on splendidly.

“...Mary Nicoll at the " Chefoo ” Flat.
Mildred Oldfield hopes to graduate from Victoria College, University of Toronto, this year. She is President of the French Club there, and is connected with various other things besides.
Edward Cecil Smith is living in Toronto. He edits a paper called " The Masses."
Elsie Roass is with the firm of Hughes, Yap and Thompson, Toronto.
Gilbert Sharp has gone out to China again with the Manufacturers' Life Assurance Company.
Olav Sorensen is in Wycliffe College, training to be a Prison Chaplain.
Bob McCrae, who was at Wycliffe, is now in his first year at Victoria College, University of Toronto.
Avril Robinson is going to Chefoo during his Summer Vac. (What luck 1 —Ed.)
Sheila Tull is teaching in a High School at Richmond Hill, just outside Toronto.
Lorna Whitelaw is finishing her Senior Matric. at North Toronto Collegiate.
Rose Olsen was married last year to Mr. Ronald Bonner, who is working with the Toronto Jewish Mission.

“...to be no reason why we should be faced again with the difficulties of 1929 and its subsequent years. These difficulties were mainly due to circumstances out of our control, and now that we have successfully overcome them with the co-operation of our members, we must push ahead. I do not wish to convey the impression that our Association is now in a state of opulence !—far from it ! Our job is not to amass wealth, but to give our members the fullest benefit from the funds at our disposal.

“...1931. Can you enter into the enthusiasm of adding to it ?
Chinese Chow and Chefoo Chat. The date of this enjoyable “ double ” function is now altered to the second Thursday of alternate months. The next will therefore take place on Thursday, September 14th, and the following one on November 9th. Reminder notices will be sent out to those living in the London area. Our venue is the Nanking Restaurant, 4, Denmark Street, London, W.C. 1, at 6.30 p.m.
List of Names and Addresses. With the December Newsletters we hope to supply a list of the alterations and additions to the names and addresses sent out with the April issue. The Secretary should be notified of all changes of address.
