LEPCHA OR RONG.

Free translation of the foregoing.

(Mr. David Macdonald).

Once upon a time a rich married couple lived in a certain town. They
had money and enough to eat and drink. They got one son. Being the
child of rich parents he lived without having anything to do. Afterwards
his parents died, and he, who was the son of wealthy parents, squandered
the property which his father and mother had left. His money went
away, and nothing was left to eat and drink. Starving he wandered about,
and at last he died from want of food.

In the same country there was a poor orphan. He worked day and
night in the fields, in the flower gardens, and did well all he was set to do.
He became wealthy and got authority. He gave the people of that place
food, and on those who were poor he bestowed wealth. Through
Gods mercy he therefore became the king o^ that place.
