General Note:
The last major earthquake to strike Kathmandu and surrounding areas prior to the 2015 one was the 1934 earthquake, which caused a similar level of destruction. After the reconstruction was completed in about three years, the then Rana Prime Minister Juddha Shamsher Rana had many memorials and inscriptions placed around the Kathmandu Valley commemorating the earthquake.
