|a This section contains six envelopes discussing political issues in East and West Africa. The first envelope (SL25) contains a small bound book, in French, about the traditional political system of West Africa that was presented by Pathe Diagne at the Congres International des Africanistes, at Dakar, Senegal, in 1967. The second envelope (SL26) contains a paper by Knud E Svendsen presented, in 1967, at an interdisciplinary staff seminar at the University College, Dar es Salaam, about the problems of implementing a socialist political and economic system in Tanzania. The third envelope (SL27) contains a paper by Robert L Bunger about the Pokomo political organisation and history, given to the Cultural division of the Institute of Development studies, University College, Nairobi, in 1970. The paper contains an appendix about marriage among the Muslim upper Pokomo, and a handmade map of the area under discussion. Envelope SL28 contains the political manifestos of various Ugandan political parties, including the Progressive Party, the Democratic Party and the United Congress Party, with related press cuttings, in both English and Luganda. Envelope SL29 contains a paper by Katherine Levine about the Social inequality and National Politics in a suburb of Dar es Salaam. The suburb under scrutiny is the area of Keko, and a map is enclosed at the end of the paper. The paper also has an appendix on the structure of government and politics in Tanzania, dated 1968. Finally, in SL30, there is a reading list for an Anthropology course on Traditional African Political Systems. |
