Abstract:
This hadithi, part of the collection MS 193290, seems to be, according to the researcher, an old egyptian story that has been transliterated and translated into Swahili. It narrates the story of an imaginary Sultanate where the laws are all inverted and the population cannot make sense of it. With humorous device it also instructs about moral values within the Muslim community. The Kimvita dialect is predominant, however there are many words of southern dialects like, for instance, the use of the verb ‘kugombana’ in the last paragraph of page 2. This causes problems in identifying the scribe or translator of the story. ( en )
