520 3    |a This section comprises three envelopes containing various Swahili poetry. The first envelope (13) contains Allen’s notebook where he wrote fragments of short poems. Some are written with pencils and some with blue pen, and in many instances the writing is too scribbled to be readable. The diary is dated 1957. The second envelope (14) contains, first, a copy of ‘Kisa cha watu wa Lamu’ [The story of the people of Lamu]. The poem has 30 verses that are here presented with translation. The second item is an historical document concerning the Sultan of Siu, Bwana Mataka, in relation to Sultan Majid bin Said, the ruler of Zanzibar. As it is well known there has been a war between the two rulers for the control of Pate and Siu. At the end Sultan Majid too control of Pate and Siu and imprisoned Bwana Mataka. This historical event is exemplified by means of extracts of poems (mashairi). And finally, there are four typescript pages regarding the history of the Rulers of Mrima region, especially about Seyyid Suleiman bin Hemed and Albusaidi dynasty, with translation in English. Envelope 16 contains a large collection of poems organised in alphabetical order. The poems contained are as follow: - Utendi wa Watu wa Amu - Utendi wa Maliki Habibu bin Maliki - Sielewi Azimio - Kisa cha Watu wa Amu - Mashairi ya Muyaka - Dialogic poem between Sh. Ali and Bwana Mengo - Nyimbo ya Kubembeleza Watoto - Utenzi wa Qadhi Qasim - Nyimbo ya Kusifu Nguo - Jini Ngoma - Utendi wa Kiatu - Utendi wa Kuku na Kanu - Utendi wa Miraji ya Rudeni - Utendi wa Yunus The last envelope of this section of PP MS 20-3c contains, first, a booklet entitled ‘Mwengu sauti yarahabiya yafaraithi nyipiya’ by Faraj Bwana Mkuu.
