It covers the whole of Saoudi-Arabia with the exception of the Red Sea area covered by the concession held by Petroleum Company Concessions Limited, an offshoot of the Iraq Petroleum Co., the neighbourhood of the Holy Cities of Mecca and Medina, and a large corridor in the heart of Najd, with Riyadh, the capital, as its centre. But the Company’s area includes the territories both to the north and south of this corridor, and also the “Neutral Zones” where Saoudi-Arabia is contiguous to Kuwait and Iraq. Payments for Concessions The California Arabia Standard Oil Co., as the company operating in this area is called, has paid to the Government of Saoudi-Arabia £140,000 (in gold) as an original payment, and is paying £20,000 a year as rental, the royalty of four shillings (gold) per ton remaining the same for the extended territory...”
