Christoph von Fürer-Haimendorf's work took him throughout India and Nepal, but also took him into Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma, even as far west as Pakistan and as far south as Sri Lanka. Resources in the collection are also of importance for the study of Tibetan culture. The bulk of his work, however, was located in Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Nepal.
